Stepinac plans to build new outdoor sports complex

At its annual golf/dinner outing in Armonk on Tuesday, Stepinac announced its plans for a new athletic complex. The school hopes the complex is ready to open in the fall of 2011 and has already raised almost half of the $1.9 million it needs to fund the project.

If it goes off as scheduled, the project will include a new turf field for the current football field, which will be designed to benefit the football, soccer, lacrosse and baseball teams. It will be encircled with a new track as well.

You can see a rendering of the new facility by clicking here. It’s obviously a pretty standard design that we’ve seen popping up at several high schools in the area. However, Stepinac is one school in need of a more durable playing surface.

For those who don’t know, part of the football field is even used for baseball (for right field and part of center). So not only do the football, soccer and lacrosse teams dig up the grass, the baseball players take their spikes to it as well.
