Thank you letter from the Kehayas Family

 Coach O'Donnell,

I just wanted to take a few moment
s and thank both the entire Stepinac Community and yourself for your outpouring of support with the passing of our father, "The Big Daddy." As you know Dad was raised a Fordham boy through and through but for the past twenty years it was Stepinac that bought him the most joy. Dad would refer himself as a Crusader and definitely bled “red and blue.”
Since 1993 he loved going to Football games and being around all the coaches and parents.
Two of the last outings my Dad had alone with his sons was the opening game this year in which we beat on Fordham (He loved that!) and at the Turkey Bowl. At the Turkey Bowl he had to leave in the third quarter.  By this time Dad was very sick and could not really go anywhere for long but he made sure he got to the Turkey Bowl.
It was in exiting the Turkey Bowl in the third quarter that I realized how much Dad loved Stepinac. I said to him, "Dad, I am so proud of you for making it to this game today because it is what you wanted to do and you made it happen." Dad went on to say, " T-Man in all my years of educating my children and leaving my children with other parents and confidants, it was at Stepinac that the ideals which were taught at home were reinforced. Giving me little fear as to where you boys were headed." He went on to say while shedding tears, "it would not have been a normal Thanksgiving Day if I had not spent it with my boys at the Stepinac game, even if it is my last."
Dad was a simple man who loved simple things, but he was so honored to be a "Stepinac Hall of Famer" and on the Board of Trustees. Stepinac, along with the million other things he was involved in, was always the on the top of his priorities list and list of things he loved to talk about. No one can forget listening to some of his painful stories!!!
On behalf of my brothers, sisters and mother we are so proud to be part of the Stepinac Family and will never forget all that Monsignor, Mr. Carty, all the coaches, yourself and the entire Stepinac community has done for us.
In these last couple weeks of emotional strain, seeing what Stepinac has done for Dad and how that has made us feel in return is amazing. The honoring of my father at the games with a moment of silence went above and beyond. As always Stepinac has showed its class ten fold. The actions of Stepinac show that while money can get you a lot of things, there is no match for family, support, faith and believing in a common goal.
I know Dad is looking down with a huge smile on his face getting ready for next season! Just as he will be with us, he will be with Stepinac, just watching from a different seat in the house.
Thank you,
Terence and The Kehayas Family
